Essential oils have proven to be very beneficial and powerful. Companies claim that they have the potential to cure just about anything. While that is true in the most part, there are a few things that you should remember before you start using essential oils.
There is no denying that essential oils come packed with goodness. However, some oils can be harmful in one way or the other! This is the reason why you should be aware of what you are using and what harmful effects it may have on you and your family.
- Skin discoloration and sores: There are a few photosynthesizing oils that will burn your skin when you are in sunlight. This is why you should never apply these oils when you head to the beach. Some examples of such oils include lime essential oil, cumin essential oil, and lemon essential oil.
- Pregnancy and baby dangers: If you are pregnant or are breastfeeding you should be doubly careful. All essential oils must be diluted heavily and some of them must be avoided completely include spike lavender and rosemary. Wintergreen, tarragon, mugwort, and sage are also very harmful.
- Pet dangers: Essential oils are NOT for pets. Please do not use them on them.
- Swallowing dangers: Some essential oils are fatal and can kill you if you swallow them. These include wintergreen and pennyroyal. Some others may cause irritation, pain, and even miscarriage.
