How to control blood pressure naturally

High blood pressure can be dangerous if left untreated for long. People who have high blood pressure are at an increased risk of heart failure and a host of other health issues.  If you are suffering from high blood pressure, it’s time to make a few lifestyle changes to get your health back on track.

Here’s what you should be doing:

  1. Shed all the extra kilos you have around your body and trim down your waist line. This helps reduce blood pressure.
  2. Exercise regularly. Dedicating at least 30 minutes a day to healthy physical activities can lower blood pressure by 4-8 millimetres of mercury! Get off the couch. Now!
  3. Eat healthy and fresh. Include whole grains, fruits, and vegetables in your diet and eliminate junk food and processed food that is high on sodium.
  4. Include potassium in your diet. Potassium has been proven to reduce the effect of sodium on blood pressure. Bananas, mushrooms, squash, potatoes, and avocados are rich sources of potassium.
  5. Reduce your intake of sodium. Cut back on salt and flavour your food with herbs and spices instead.
  6. Limit your alcohol consumption. Studies show that people who consume more than a drink a day risk raising their blood pressure by several points within months. Alcohol also reduces the effectiveness of blood pressure medications. Say no to liquor.

There you go! Lap up these tips and say hello to a healthier you.
