Money is the reason behind conflicts more often than not, which is why you must be careful when you merge accounts with your spouse. Money should never be the reason behind your fights.
- Talk about it. The best way to avoid misunderstanding is to talk about it openly. Discuss your finances and everything about it. Discuss whether a joint account is really the way to go. Just because you are married does not mean you have a joint account. It is a matter of personal choice and need.
- Debt can be extremely stressful. Thus, if one of you is in debt at the start of the marriage (student loan, etc.) you must plan on it together. Also, do not add to the debt just because you want luxury. Be strategic.
- Save. Saving money together will help you bond more and you will have savings for emergencies. This is a great way to keep conflict away.
- Always stick to the budget. Both of you must be very strict about this. Create a budget and make sure you abide by it.
