There comes a point in everyone’s professional life (unless you are a travel logger perhaps) when they want to break out of what they are doing to do better, bigger things. But few of us actually take that step owing to confusion whether their feelings are for real.
Here’s how to know if you are ready to take the next step in your career:
- Ask yourself if you are bored. See if you are engaged enough, if you know your next move, see if you know your next step. You will be able to judge the level of satisfaction you are getting from your current role.
- Recognize the little signs of a burnout. Do you feel exhausted? Are you unable to pay attention to detail? Does every alternate task on your to do list piss you off? If yes, you need a shift right away.
- In every company, there is an average time people in a position move up in the same company or move out to a new job. See if you have done your time. If you’ve been stuck for too long, you know what you should do.
- See if you have outgrown you job. If you’ve mastered your job profile and are safely dabbling with responsibilities of the position above you, it’s time to move up the ladder.
There you go! If you experience any of the above, it’s time to prepare for a promotion or job change. All the best!
